History
Project
Ix-canaan began in August 1995 as the result of collaboration between Dr. Enrique
Chapetón, Anne Lossing, Eduardo Cofiño, and Gonzalo Galindo. The first phase
of the project - a Free Community Clinic, was initiated in a small building
loaned by a local resident.
In
December of 1996, Project Ix-canaan relocated to an open, thatch-roofed building
on its own land.
Over
the ensuing 4 years, through the ongoing generosity and support of Eduardo Cofiño,
the roof was rebuilt, a cement floor was installed, and partial walls were constructed.
A donation by the Molineros
de Arroz de Guatemala (ARROZGUA) in 1999 enabled the construction of a proper,
secure building to house the Community Clinic and was opened to the public
in February of 2000. (see Clinic Photos).
